百年回響、薪火永續(xù) —— 哈佛大學(xué)胡先骕先生百年紀(jì)念活動(dòng)圓滿(mǎn)落幕

Echoes of a Century

— Harvard University Hosts Global Tribute to Dr. Hu Hsen-Hsu

A global online event commemorating Dr. Hu Hsen-Hsu—pioneer of modern Chinese botany, co-founder of Lushan Botanical Garden, Jiangxi Province and Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as “LSBG”), and 1925 Ph.D. graduate of Harvard University—was held on December 2. Organized by the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University with support from the Harvard Center Shanghai, the event brought together scholars and participants from multiple countries to honor Dr. Hu’s enduring scientific legacy.

Mark Elliott, Vice Provost of Harvard University, opened the event by emphasizing Dr. Hu’s pivotal role in advancing Chinese botany and fostering early academic exchange between China and Harvard. Scholars from both sides reviewed his contributions to plant taxonomy, the discovery of Metasequoia glyptostroboides, and his influence on botanical research across borders.

A commemorative video produced by LSBG highlighted Dr. Hu’s foundational work during the Garden’s early years and showcased its ongoing efforts in plant diversity conservation and scientific research. As China’s first modern botanical garden, LSBG continues to uphold Dr. Hu’s scientific spirit and commitment to public service.

The commemorative event served as both a tribute to Dr. Hu’s century-long legacy and a reaffirmation of continued collaboration in botanical science. LSBG will further carry forward this spirit through strengthened research, conservation, and international cooperation.

作為江西省、中國(guó)科學(xué)院廬山植物園（以下簡(jiǎn)稱(chēng)“廬山植物園”）奠基人之一、中國(guó)現(xiàn)代植物學(xué)的重要開(kāi)拓者——胡先骕先生于1925年獲哈佛大學(xué)博士學(xué)位，其學(xué)術(shù)精神與遺產(chǎn)跨越百年仍熠熠生輝。12月2日，由哈佛大學(xué)阿諾德樹(shù)木園主辦、哈佛中心上海協(xié)辦的“胡先骕生平及學(xué)術(shù)遺產(chǎn)紀(jì)念活動(dòng)”全球線(xiàn)上活動(dòng)圓滿(mǎn)舉行，來(lái)自全球多個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)的植物學(xué)同仁、教育界人士及科學(xué)文化愛(ài)好者共同參與，完成了一場(chǎng)跨越國(guó)界與時(shí)空的學(xué)術(shù)致敬。

哈佛大學(xué)國(guó)際事務(wù)教務(wù)長(zhǎng)歐立德（Mark Elliott）在開(kāi)場(chǎng)致辭中指出，胡先骕先生不僅是中國(guó)植物學(xué)的開(kāi)拓者，更是哈佛大學(xué)與中國(guó)學(xué)術(shù)交流史上的重要紐帶。隨后，多名中外學(xué)者圍繞先生的學(xué)術(shù)生涯、時(shí)代價(jià)值及中外植物學(xué)交流展開(kāi)深度分享：哈佛大學(xué)中國(guó)研究講席教授柯偉林（William Kirby）梳理了20世紀(jì)初哈佛大學(xué)與中國(guó)的學(xué)術(shù)互動(dòng)脈絡(luò)，還原了先生在中西科學(xué)對(duì)話(huà)中的關(guān)鍵角色；國(guó)家植物園（北園）首席科學(xué)家馬金雙系統(tǒng)解讀了先生在水杉發(fā)現(xiàn)、《中國(guó)植物志》編撰等領(lǐng)域的科學(xué)歷程；北京師范大學(xué)胡曉江教授通過(guò)珍貴史料，展現(xiàn)了先生“乞得種樹(shù)術(shù)、將以療國(guó)貧”的家國(guó)情懷；哈佛大學(xué)阿諾德樹(shù)木園園長(zhǎng) William Friedman 與檔案館長(zhǎng) Lisa Pearson 詳細(xì)講述了先生與阿諾德樹(shù)木園在水杉研究中的協(xié)作故事，揭示了這段植物學(xué)史上“跨洋合作”的珍貴細(xì)節(jié)……

活動(dòng)中，多位嘉賓提及胡先骕與鄭萬(wàn)鈞于1948年宣布“活化石”水杉（Metasequoia glyptostroboides）發(fā)現(xiàn)的歷史事件，并強(qiáng)調(diào)其對(duì)全球植物科學(xué)的重要意義。由先生寄贈(zèng)至阿諾德樹(shù)木園的水杉，已在園內(nèi)成長(zhǎng)為具有象征意義的參天大樹(shù)，見(jiàn)證了中美兩國(guó)跨越百年的學(xué)術(shù)連結(jié)。

作為胡先骕等人親手創(chuàng)辦的中國(guó)首個(gè)近代植物園，廬山植物園制作了特別紀(jì)念視頻以表達(dá)深切緬懷與敬意。視頻展現(xiàn)胡先骕先生在廬山植物園創(chuàng)立階段的科學(xué)實(shí)踐與貢獻(xiàn)，同時(shí)介紹了我園近年來(lái)在植物多樣性保護(hù)與科學(xué)研究等方面的發(fā)展，顯示我園在新時(shí)代持續(xù)傳承和弘揚(yáng)胡先骕科學(xué)精神的努力。今日的廬山植物園不僅延續(xù)著胡先骕“獻(xiàn)身科學(xué)、報(bào)效祖國(guó)；艱苦奮斗、以園為家”的科學(xué)精神，也致力于推動(dòng)植物資源保護(hù)、科普教育與國(guó)際學(xué)術(shù)交流。

此次活動(dòng)是對(duì)我園歷史和精神傳統(tǒng)的再一次回望。未來(lái)，廬山植物園將繼續(xù)弘揚(yáng)胡先骕等前輩科學(xué)家的科研精神與自然保護(hù)理念，進(jìn)一步加強(qiáng)植物多樣性保護(hù)研究，深化國(guó)內(nèi)外合作交流，為推動(dòng)我國(guó)植物科學(xué)事業(yè)發(fā)展貢獻(xiàn)力量。
